Josh Bauder (Featured Guest) is a senior at the University of
St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota, where
he is pursuing a BA in music and a BA in
philosophy. He is active in piano studies, serves
as president of the St Thomas Chamber Singers,
tutors music theory, and dabbles with conducting
(he was selected as one of eight semifinalists in the
2009 national ACDA conducting competition). Josh
is also interested in composition and has written
for piano, small ensembles, handbells, choir, and
orchestra. His most significant work to date is a
symphony, which premiered at St Thomas in
early March 2010. He plans to pursue a masters
degree in theology at Central Seminary in
Minneapolis before going to graduate school
for conducting or musicology. During his
free time, Josh enjoys hanging out with
his friends, reading fiction, and eating
Dutch Crunch Jalapeno & Cheddar
Kettle Chips.
Greg Stiekes pastor of Bethany Bible Church, and
his wife, Rena, coordinate Music Camp each year
as an outreach ministry of Bethany Bible Church.
They enjoy researching hymnody and history, and
have a special desire for children to know and love the
church’s rich, musical heritage. Greg enjoys arranging
and directing music for children, including his own
five children, who are strings students. The Stiekeses
make their home in Saluda with their two dogs, two
cats, and two fish.
Ryan Martin, new administrative assistant at Bethany,
and his wife, Jennifer, will be assisting in teaching and
other camp activities. Ryan has a particular interest in
church history and its great wealth of hymnody. Jennifer
herself was a popular junior high and secondary
history teacher in California and Minnesota. They
both share a love for the traditional Christian worship,
and desire to pass on this tradition to the next
generation of believers.
Scott and Becky Aniol, also new to Music Camp this
year, are active members of Bethany Bible Church.
Scott directs a ministry to churches with the goal of
helping teach edifying music, and Becky is a certified
Kindermusik instructor. They directed a music
academy in Illinois for five years where Scott lead a
community children’s choir and Becky taught music
classes, before moving south in 2008. They have
two children.
Julie Herbster, and her huband Matt, live and minister
at the Wilds Christian Camp near Brevard.
Julie helps with workshops and activities during music
camp. Having studied music throughout her life, she
now enjoys homeschooling her own five children and
helping them pursue their own training in strings. The
family enjoys ministering with music in several settings.
Julie is a former elementary school teacher and
enjoys working with children of all ages.
Paul Overly is a professor of music at Bob Jones
University. He holds a Doctorate in trombone performance
and has a special love for medieval music,
including an impressive collection of vintage instruments,
which he will demonstrate for us during the
week!
