Music Camp, June 21-25, 2010
Children Ages 6-13
Daily, 8:45-12:30

Whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and
if there is anything praiseworthy—
meditate on these things.

Philippians 4:8 instructs believers in Christ and the gospel to train their minds to dwell on that which is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous, and praise-worthy. Music camp at Bethany Bible Church is an effort to help children learn to value and appreciate music that glorifies God and communicates His beauty, holiness, and truth.

For one week each summer, children ages 6-13 are invited to the church facility to participate in creative workshops and enjoy lots of activities related to music and history. Lively sessions include information about famous composers and musicians and their important works, as well as music history and cultural traditions. Church hymnody through the ages provides the foundation for the week. Children are taught several hymns and hear stories of the men and women who wrote them. They are challenged from the Bible by Pastor Greg Stiekes, as the various texts of hymns are considered. Children also receive brief times of instrumental and choral training and are able to participate in a community concert at the close of the week. Guest musicians are invited to teach and perform in their area of expertise. There are times throughout the morning for activities, indoor and outdoor games, and thematic crafts. Snack time provides a sampling of various foods representing the country or era of music studied.
