Music Camp, June 16-20, 2008
9am to 12:30pm
Grades 1-8
This summer, Bethany Bible Church will again host the annual Music Camp for grades 1-8. Plans are underway for an enjoyable week of learning about various composers, musicians, and music and instruments of early American history. Workshops will include lively presentations about everything from Moravian Concert Music to the Jaw harp and folk harp; from the early singing schools and shaped-note hymnody to the origin of the United States Marine Band and Fife and Drum Corps. We are planning for workshops and performances by regional guest musicians, including vocalists, and brass and percussion performers. Children will also be introduced to cultural and social aspects of the Colonial period while participating in crafts and activities that compliment the Patriotic theme. We’ll even have the pleasure of tasting some early American treats!
Church music flourished during this period. Each day of camp, as part of the devotional challenge, the children will be taught a lesser-known hymn and will learn about the life of the writer. At the end of the week, they will perform in the music camp choir as part of an evening community concert on Friday at 7:00.
Music Camp is an intensive, yet enjoyable time of learning about the rich heritage of music, both secular and sacred, as an art form that brings glory to God.

“Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue
and if there is anything praiseworthy—
meditate on these things” (Phil 4:8).
