About the Guest Artists


Dr. and Mrs. NicholsDr. and Mrs. Nichols
Richard Nichols holds B.A. and M.A. in Music from Bob Jones University and Southern Methodist University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Ohio State. He is the Director of SoundForth and the founder of the Logos Youth Orchestra in Greenville, SC.  He was formerly Associate Professor of Music at Clearwater Christian College where he conducted the orchestra and brass ensemble and taught conducting, music history, and theory.

Dr. Nichols performs regularly with several Florida symphonies and orchestras.  He has also performed at schools such as Eastman School of Music, the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and the Odessa Conservatory in the Ukraine.

Dr. Nichols has almost 100 compositions in print with publishers such as Word, Shawnee, Lorenz, and Canticle Press.  He has been commissioned to compose for the music departments of Ohio State University and Florida State University.  His compositions have been recorded by artists such as Stuart Neill (soloist with the Metropolitan Opera) and David Kim (Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra).  

Nancy Nichols holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Bob Jones University in Piano Pedagogy and Music Education. For over 17 years she has maintained a private studio of piano and flute students. She has served as a judge for the American College of Musicians National Guild of Piano Teachers and is a licensed Kindermusik Educator.  For four years she served as Adjunct Professor of Piano at Clearwater Christian College.

The Nichols will be presenting brass and woodwind workshops on Friday, and performing in the Friday evening concert.

Matthew WhitcombPastor and Mrs. Whitcomb Rachelle Whitcomb

Matthew Whitcomb has served in various capacities as a choral conductor, band director, orchestra director, and private music instructor. He holds degrees in Music Education from BJU and an M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina. He serves as Minister of Music at Community Baptist Church in Greer, SC, and also conducts the BJU Concert Choir . He will be presenting a percussion workshop on Friday, and performing in the Friday evening concert.

Rachelle Whitcomb is currently serving as pianist at Community Baptist Church in Greer, SC. In addition to teaching her private violin studio in Greenville, she is also teaching as an adjunct string professor at BJU. Rachelle enjoys performing in several symphonies across the southeast. She holds an M.A. in violin performance from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. from Bob Jones University. Rachelle will be presenting a violin and fiddle workshop on Friday, and will be performing in the evening concert.

Tamar PundysMrs. Tamar Pundys

Tamar Pundys has an elementary education degree and an M.A. in Speech from BJU, and served on the Fine Arts faculty at the university for 12 years, teaching, directing, acting, and singing in plays, operas, and recitals. In 2004 she received an M.A. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Indiana University. She has worked in the medical field as a speech pathologist and now works in the Greenville County School System as a speech pathologist. Tamar uses music extensively in her speech therapy sessions at the preschool level. She is a licensed Kindermusik educator and teaches private voice and speech lessons. She has been active in the music ministry of her church, and released a solo vocal album in 2002 entitled, “Simply Trusting.”

Tamar lives in Greenville with her husband, Marius, and two-year-old son, PJ. She will be presenting “in character,” a storytelling and singing workshop about ballads and folk songs of the Colonial era on Wednesday.
