In this text, two relationships are contrasted side by side: in the first, a person earns his righteousness by works; in the second, a person is given righteousness because of grace. Paul demonstrates through the life of Abraham why, in the plan of God, it has always been this second relationship that has resulted in salvation for those who believe.
