Abijah was scandalized by the contempt of Jeroboam for the Lord’s anointed and the divinely sanctioned temple worship. This led him to have a brief demonstration of piety, indicting Israel for their apostasy. In his speech, he notes several contrasts between the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. In this lesson, we learn again the importance of depending on the Lord to do what he has promised, of following the divinely sanctioned worship, and of remaining committed to Jesus Christ.
