The historical setting of Malachi has many parallels with our own day. The people of Israel had been greatly blessed of God with a return from captivity, a rebuilt temple as well as city walls, and general prosperity. In spite of all these blessings, the prophet Malachi had to confront a cold, callous, and external religion. In this lesson, he shows them the futility of this kind of religion and gives them God's perspective.
