Jesus Prays for Us
John 17:20-26
Speaker
Sunday Morning Service,  September 3, 2017

Just prior to his betrayal, arrest and crucifixion, Jesus takes the time not only to pray for his disciples but also for those of us who would become Christians in the future. The main focus of Jesus' prayer request for Christians in the years to come was and is unity. What does he mean by unity and what does he not mean? What is our responsibility with regards to that unity? How important is our unity really?

John 17:6-19 gives us a special look into the heart of our savior as he prays for his disciples. Although he was soon to be headed to the cross, the disciples were on his heart. Sunday Morning Service,  August 20, 2017

The gospels record frequent times of prayer as a part of Jesus' life and ministry. However, although we have many of his sermons and parables recorded for us, there is only one lengthy prayer recorded in John 17. What makes this prayer so special? Why is this the real Lord's prayer as opposed to the model prayer he taught his disciples? What is the significance of this prayer and why did Jesus pray it?
The Parable of the Pounds
Luke 19:11-27
Speaker
Sunday School,  August 20, 2017

The emphasis of this parable is on the faithfulness of God’s people using the natural gifts, the Spiritual gifts and the opportunities we have been given by God to use to serve and glorify Him in this life. The atmosphere in which it was given is summed up in the word “expectancy.” The people, irritated over the domination of Rome were looking for their Messiah to come, overthrow Rome and set up His kingdom. As God’s servants today, we need to be ready when He returns and secondly, we need now to be good stewards of that which He has given to us. The servant who managed to salvage the one pound given to him is sadly like many Christians today who will be in heaven one day but have lived for self instead of God.
Getting to the Point
John 16:25-33
Speaker
Sunday Morning Service,  August 13, 2017

At the end of four chapters of in-depth teaching with his disciples, Jesus summarizes everything with a simple and plain description of his ministry and provision for his disciples. In the midst of their anxiety and confusion, Jesus reiterates the importance and privilege of prayer, promises peace in the midst of tribulation and reminds his disciples that in spite of the trouble they will receive from the world, he has overcome the world.
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Luke 18:9-14
Speaker
Sunday School,  August 13, 2017

Justification before God is not a matter of outward ritual, respectability, or self-righteousness. God responds to those who have a broken and contrite heart, those who humble themselves before him, and those who fall on his mercy and grace rather than their own self-righteousness.
