Cornelius was a sincere and good man, but he was also a gentile who did not know the gospel of Jesus Christ. Peter was key apostle who had experienced the power of God through the preaching of Pentecost, in Jerusalem and beyond. Yet his ministry was primarily to Jews, not to Gentiles. God is about to use visions to challenge each of these men and bring them together to open the door of the gospel to the Gentiles.

Jehovah God is the main subject of this chapter - who He is, what He does for His people, and what His people must do for Him.

Ministry is not always easy or convenient. But if we are obedient, put Jesus Christ first, and are willing to serve regardless of who notices our efforts, God can use us to make a difference. Ministry takes place when men and women are willing to take a risk, stand for Jesus Christ, and minister to individuals whenever God provides an opportunity for us.

Ezra and Nehemiah put the Word of God first in the life of the city. Everything that happens from that point on was a by-product of the people's response to the Scriptures.

Probably no transformation was more remarkable or far-reaching in it's implications on church history than the conversion of Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus.

The walls were completed, the gates were restored, and the enemy was distressed, but Nehemiah’s work was not finished.

With all of the success that Philip was encountering in Samaria, it seems strange that God would lead him away from that area to a desert road leading to Gaza. Yet, that is exactly what God did and Philip obeyed without hesitation. God's ways are not our ways, and his thoughts are not our thoughts. However, God is always right and his plan is always best. In his plans, God is about to save an Ethiopian eunuch and send the glorious light of the gospel to Africa.

Even though the wall is almost finished, Nehemiah's enemies have not given up. Though a series of final attacks on Nehemiah himself, they will try to stop the completion of the wall. Even after the wall is completed, they will continue to attack Nehemiah and the people of Israel.

Is the cost of sharing Jesus really worth it? The apostles had been jailed, threatened and beaten. Stephen had been arrested and put to death. Is there a cost that is too high for sharing the gospel?
