In this passage, Paul shifts from warning believers against a worldly sanctification that deprecates the cross work of Christ (2:20-23), to urging them to embrace a heavenly sanctification with Christ at its center (3:1-4). However, before we can appreciate the doctrine of sanctification, we must be convinced that "Christ is our life" (3:4), that at the center of our holiness is not a principle, but a Person. Paul calls our attention to this essential truth in three amazing statements.
