Up to this point, Peter has exhorted us with respect to our relationship with God. Now he turns to our relationships in the body of Christ. Just as an army cannot face hostility from the enemy when there is disunity within, so we are not prepared to stand firm against the world's hostility when we are fighting among ourselves.
