In contrast to the hardheartedness of Israel’s spiritual leadership, Jesus draws upon the imagery of ancient near eastern shepherding to present Himself as the true leader of Israel. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus alone possesses essential qualities that we celebrate as His sheep.
